WOMEN'S SOCCER NORWEGIAN TOUR: DAY 5
ASKER, NORWAY (08/19/03) - Freshman Kaiti McCaffery and junior Cristin Harris enjoyed a day off from soccer to see ski jumps, Viking ships, and Oslo. Here are their thoughts.
---------
Day five in Norway was great. We all woke up for breakfast at 9:15 a.m. After breakfast we all got ready and waited for the bus driver to come and pick us up to begin our tour of Oslo. There was no soccer today so we had a lot of time to see as much as we wanted to. The bus arrived at noon and we were off.
Our first stop was Holmenkollen, which is where the huge ski jump is found. We all got to go through the museum that explained all about the ski jump and the history of skiing. Then we went all the way to the top. After many stairs, it was all worth it. The view was absolutely gorgeous and we could see all of Oslo from the top.
Next, we went to the Viking museum where we saw many types of Viking ships and many different things that were also involved with all of the ships. Our third stop was at the Kontiki which was right on the water and there were, again, beautiful views. The Kontiki was very informal and interesting.
After our history lessons, we went to a beautiful park in Oslo, the name is very hard to pronounce. The park was absolutely beautiful because it was packed with many unique statues. We all took great pictures.
After that it was off to dinner. We ate at a resturant called Jimmy's on the water. The food and view were great. After dinner we all ventured ourselves into Oslo and did some shopping. Everyone finally found international phone cards and Cristin Harris' sister won 360 kroners at a random slot machine. She is very happy.
After a full day we all took a train home to Asker. Our day in Oslo was great and even greater because we had a day off from soccer, but tomorrow it is back to business!
