WOMEN'S SOCCER NORWEGIAN TOUR: DAY 6

ASKER, NORWAY (08/20/03) - Senior captain Michelle Ford and freshman Lauren Kuhmerker spent the day on a cruise and on the practice fields. Check out their day here. --- We awoke to a dark and dreary morning -- good thing we had a cruise on the fjord planned for the day! We took a train to Sandvika where we met our fjord cruise captains. The cruise started off slow with most of the team napping, but they were all rudely awaken by the smacking of the heads--compliments of Jess and Peye. We stopped at a dock for a cookout in the rain. While the food was cooking we were entertained by (assistant coach) Peye (Garcia) and Lindsay (Crandall) braving the elements, and going for a swim in the water. After eating burgers and dogs, we went crabbing and fishing with a Norwegian kindergarten class on a field trip. The children were not very embracing as they stole Marissa's (Barriere) hat and threw it in the water, and tried to knock (Katie) Grillo into the fjord. They began to warm up to us, but it was difficult to understand their Norwegian language. The leftover hamburgers came in handy as bait to catch the fish and crabs. One boy named Tesious became very fond of Marissa. She spent the whole day trying to understand what he was saying, but as we were leaving he yelled “stay” and we were informed he had just moved from Florida. He was adorable and he didn't stop waving goodbye until we were out of sight. After the cruise we headed straight to practice, just in time for the sun to finally emerge. After a practice of set plays and sprints we headed back to the hotel for a warm shower and a quick rest. We anxiously awaited the lasagna that Mrs. Marini was cooking for us while we were practicing. It was a nice change from the cooking of our coaches!! After dinner we were all beat from a long day, so we decided to rest up for the night to prepare for tomorrows big game!! -- Michelle Ford and Lauren Kuhmerker
