DAYTON EDGES SAINT JOSEPH'S, 2-1, TO SPOIL SENIOR DAY

PHILADELPHIA, PA (11/03/02) – The underdog Hawk women's soccer team stayed with Atlantic 10 Conference leading Dayton, but the regionally ranked Flyers spoiled senior day with a 2-1 victory on Finnesey Field. The Flyers (17-2-0, 10-1-0) controlled the ball for the entire first half, resulting in two goals. Lindsey Whitehead took a pass from Tesia Kozlowski in the 22nd minute and sent the ball just past the reach of an outstretched Christy Ganc to give UD a 1-0 lead. The A-10s defending champions tallied another goal just six minutes later as Shannon Kuhl deposited a pass from Whitehead into the top right corner. Saint Joseph's (4-12-1, 1-9-1), which honored their six graduating seniors before the game, responded after halftime with inspired play, controlling the ball in the early going. Ten minutes into the stanza, senior Katie Watson took a bouncing pass from junior Michelle Ford and booted it just inside the left corner to bring the score to 2-1. With the goal, Watson finishes her career with 14 goals, five assists and 33 points placing her third all-time on Hawk Hill in goals and points, and eighth in assists. St. Joe's was unable to muster another opportunity as Watson's goal concluded the scoring. Ganc stopped three shots in the loss, ending her career with 248 saves, good for second all-time at SJU. Stephanie Weisenfeld stopped four shots at the other end. Dayton outshot SJU 18-7, while both teams attempted four corner kicks, The contest was the final in the careers of Ganc, Watson, Danielle Gregoire, Kim Miller, Kellie Woolcock, and Jodi Young.
