SJU TIES DUQUESNE, 1-1, IN DOUBLE OVERTIME
PHILADELPHIA (10/07/01) The Saint Joseph's women's soccer team challenged the Dusquesne Dukes to a 1-1 tie Sunday afternoon on Finnesey turf. This is the Hawks second tie of the season.
To open the game Duquesne's Maureen Moran fired a 15 footer off a pass from Erin Marshall in the 13th minute to give the Dukes a 1-0. Hawk forward Kim Dwyer responded to the Dukes in the 40th minute after receiving a feed from defender Laurie Muller to tie the game 1-1.
In the second half , Saint Joseph's dominated offensively , as they outshot Duquesne 8-2. Both teams were relentless as they pushed regulation play into overtime. "We're taking risks," said Hawk coach Jess Reynolds. "We just didn't put the ball in the back of the net today."
Saint Joseph's outshot Duquesne 23-10, as goalie Alecia Kornicki recorded only two saves giving up one goal while Duke goalie, Kristin Scharphorn, recorded nine saves giving up one goal.
The Hawks are now 4-2-2 on the season, 1-0-2 in Atlantic 10 play. Duquesne moves to 2-6-2 , 1-1-1 in Atlantic 10 action.
Saint Joseph's travels to Richmond next Friday to challenge the Spiders. Play begins at 7:00.
