SJU DROPS TO UPENN, 3-0

PHILADELPHIA (10/17/01) -The Saint Joseph's women's soccer team lost a heartbreaker to neighboring Pennsylvania this afternoon 3-0. Penn Quaker Katy Cross, jumped out in the 17th minute to score on a corner kick giving Pennsylvania a 1-0 lead. Ten minutes later, Rachelle Savage converted on a straight-away that passed through the hands of Saint Joseph goalie Christy Ganc. In the 52nd minute, Pennsylvania sealed the deal at 3-0, as they scored yet another goal on Ganc (8 saves). Today's game is the third shutout in six days for the Hawks. The Quakers outshot the Hawks 17-3, 9-1 in the second half. Saint Joseph's falls to 4-5-2 while UPenn jumps to 9-1-1. Pennsylvania ranks 11th in the country in won-loss-tied record. SJU returns home Friday when they play Massachusetts. The game is set for 7:00.
