Box Score

BERKELEY, CALIF. - The Saint Joseph's women's soccer team fell to #17 California, 6-0 at Goldman Field at Edwards Stadium on Sunday afternoon. Junior Sarah O'Malley and freshman Kortney Rhoades were named to the 14th Cal Invitational All-Tournament Team.

SJU (0-2) attempted to contain Cal's athletic advantage by playing a defensive formation. The maneuver did the trick for a while as the Golden Bears misconnected on many passes. They created just one scoring opportunity early in which Megan Bastianelli (three saves) made a sprawling stop to keep the Bears off the board in the fourth minute.

Nevertheless, Cal (2-1) finally broke through in the 20th minute with a gorgeous header by Katrin Omarsdottir off a Nkechi Kanu cross. Cal struck again just four minutes later with a goal by All-American Alex Morgan.

The Bears would extend the lead to three a little over five minutes further into the half with a tally by Lisa Kevorkian. Cal would hold the 3-0 lead going into the intermission, while also maintaining a 12-1 shot advantage.

Cal added three more goals in the second half for the final score line, including a last-second shot.

Freshman Cara Critchlow was in between the pipes in the second half, making four saves in her collegiate debut.

For the game the Golden Bears held the edge in shots (29-2) and corner kicks (5-1). The two-game tournament in California was a homecoming for senior captain Laura Adams (Pleasanton, Calif.) and sophomore Meghan Cronin. (Danville, Calif.).

SJU returns home to take on Saint Peter's on Friday at newly resurfaced Finnesey Field. Game time is slated for 7:00 p.m.
