Oct. 8, 2009

PHILADELPHIA -

The Saint Joseph's women's rowing team will compete in its first official race of the season when it participates in the Navy Day Regatta on Saturday, October 10 on the Schuylkill River. It marks the first time that this regatta will be hosted by Saint Joseph's.

The crew will also represent SJU in the sculling events with three doubles and a quad at the "Row for the Cure" on Sunday, also on the Schuylkill.

SJU will face good competition at Navy Day with crews from Penn and Navy, as well as Dad Vail and Atlantic 10 opponents. The Hawks will boat a Varsity Eights, two Second Varsity Eights, two Freshman Eights, a Varsity 4 and three Doubles.

"Expectations are high again this season with a lot of returning oarswomen from the very sucessful 2009 season. As always we will take the opportunity in the fall races to try out different line-ups and mix things up as much as possible," said Hawk coach Gerry Quinlan. -On Sunday we will represent SJU in the Row for the cure in the sculling events.
