SJU Dedicates Boat in Honor of Olympian Renee Hykel '01

PHILADELPHIA - Saint Joseph's women's rowing named its newest shell in honor of alum and Olympian Renee Hykel '01, at a dedication ceremony on September 28 at the Gillin Boathouse. Hykel competed in the 2008 Olympics in Beiing in the Women's Lightweight Double Skulls. Her partner in that event was Jen Goldsack, who is now a member of the Hawks' coaching staff. The duo reached the semifinals in the event. Hykel, a five-time national team member from Haverford, Pa., she is considered one of the nation's top female rowers. A member of the U.S. National Team, she competed at the World Championships in 2003, 2004, 2005 and 2005, while winning a silver medal at the 2005 World Championships. Hykel, who joined the SJU crew as a walk-on, rowed for the Hawks for four seasons and was team captain and MVP her senior season.
