SJU WOMEN'S CREWS REACH FINALS IN SAN DIEGO
SAN DIEGO (4/04/04) - The Saint Joseph's women's rowing team sent a pair of boats to compete at the prestigious 31st San Diego Crew Classic at Mission Bay in the Crown Point Shores Park over the weekend with both crews reaching finals.
The Varsity 8 placed third in the petite final in a time of 7:14.49, just seconds off the pace of UC-Davis and Sacramento State, but ahead of Kansas State, SMU and Central Florida. SJU advanced to the petite after placing third (7:00.27) in its heat, behind eventual overall champion Loyola and 0.2 seconds behind Navy. That crew bested Kansas State, Gonzaga, Colgate and UCI in the heats. The Second Varsity 8, meanwhile reached the third level final, placing second in a time of 7:12.27, just .57 seconds behind Sacramento State. SJU topped Loyola, the University of San Diego, Sandiego Stae and UCI in the final. The JV8 placed fifth in its qualifying heat covering the course in 7:22.61.
