HAWK WOMEN CLAIM THREE GOLDS AT NAVY DAY REGATTA
PHILADELPHIA (10/11/03) - The SJU Women's Rowing Team showed a lot of speed in their first race of the 2003-04 Campaign, winning Gold Medals in the Dad Vail Varsity 8, Lightweight 8 and the Quad at the Navy Day Regatta on the Schuylkill River. The SJU Women also had great showings in
the College Varsity 8, College 4 and Freshman 8.
The Second Varsity 8 competed in the 'Dad Vail' Varsity Eight category featuring teams from the Dad Vail Regatta. The 2nd Varsity looked very impressive as they rowed to a victory and gold medals, finishing with
a time of 15:22.
The Lightweight 8 had a very impressive race, taking control right from the start and winning the race in a time of 15:12, besting 2nd place Georgetown by 38 seconds.
The Hawks Varsity 4 rowed a fabulous race in the first event of the day finishing 2nd out of 14 boats just behind Penn and ahead of Navy and Rutgers top boats.
The Varsity 8 crossed the line in 14:58, finishing 4th in a highly competitive field, just 10 seconds behind winner Navy. This was a
second row for many of the women who also rowed in the four and in a double earlier in the day.
The Freshman 8 rowed a strong race in their debut as Hawks. Many of the women experienced their first rowing race ever and looked like pros. The Frosh 8 finished a strong 5th behind two Penn boats and two
Navy boats.
The sculling boats looked very smooth out there with the double finishing a strong third and the quad winning the event on a technicality, since Army and Neried did not show to the starting line.
