SJU FACES DAYTON ON CINCINNATI RIVER
CINCINNATI, OH (4/06/02) - The Saint Joseph's women's rowing team took to the road last weekend, travelling to Ohio for the Cincinnati Invitational on Saturday and a dual race against Dayton on Sunday.
On Saturday the Hawks' raced both in the morning and the afternoon. In the morning competition, SJU's varsity eight consisting of Amy Platt, Shannon Deegan, Faith Seher, Karen Rensman, Julie Conroy, Tara Smith, Martha Limbach, Jen Steel and Lauren Sumser lost to Louisville, by 10 seconds, while the team's novice eight placed second to a powerful Eastern Michigan crew and defeated West Viginia.
The afternoon session saw SJU drop a varsity eight race to host Cincinnnati. The SJU novice eight again placed second to Eastern Michigan, falling by just under three seconds. The Hawk freshmen defeated Cincinnati in the race.
The Hawks then took on Dayton the next day and won three for four races against the Flyers. The SJU novice four and eight crews both won as did the varsity four. SJU's varsity eight was edged by eight seconds in its race with Dayton.
Back in Philadelphia, the Hawk junior varsity eight won its race on the Schuylkill against La Salle, Drexel and Temple.
SJU will compete this weekend at the George Washington Invitational on Saturday and against Rhode Island on the Cooper River in Camden, N.J. on Sunday.
