LIGHTWEIGHT EIGHT PLACES FOURTH AT DAD VAILS

PHILADELPHIA (5/12/01) - The nationally-ranked St. Joseph's University women's lightweight eight entered the Dad Vail Regatta as the number one seed, only to be upset by powerful boats from Delaware, Marist and Massachusetts to finish fourth in Saturday's final. The SJU varsity eight had a difficult draw, facing Villanova and Purdue in their heat and then eventual champion Boston College in the semifinal after winning their repechage. SJU rowed strong, but fell short of qualifying for the final, placing fifth in the semifinal, just 1.1 seconds off of third placc The freshman lightweight eight also advanced to Saturday's Final, besting Marist in their heat with a strong sprint to the finish. The Hawk boat, which made weight for the first time all season, finished fourth in the finals
