Hawks Compete at Knecht Cup

CAMDEN, NJ (3-31-01) - The SJU women's rowing team recently competed at the Knecht Cup in Camden, NJ. The Hawks ' shining star was the lightweight eight. The lightweight's rowed four times (JV heat and final, Lightweight heat and final). SJU won the heat in the JV 8 and finished third in the final to Navy and Delaware and ahead of Villanova, BC, and UMass. In the Lightweight 8 the Hawks squared off against #1 Princeton, #2 Wisconsin, #3 Villanova, #4 Radcliffe and #5 UMass. In the final the Hawks were able to take #5 UMass in the final 500 meters to finish a strong fourth behind Princeton, Wisconsin, Radcliffe, Delaware. The Varsity 8 had a strong heat that they were unable to advance from, coming in fourth in the heat. The freshman 8 and four also rowed well but were unable to make the final.
