Women's Rowing Competes for Atlantic 10 Championship on Saturday

April 20, 2007

PENNSAUKEN, NJ - The Saint Joseph's women's rowing team will compete in the Atlantic 10 Championships on Saturday, April 21, at Cooper River in Pennsauken, NJ. The Hawks have never won the A-10 title, but finished a best-ever second place in 2006, with victories in the Varsity 4 and Novice 4.

UMass is the defending champion, but Rhode Island enters the championship as the top seed. Saint Joseph's has not raced URI yet in 2007, but the Hawks did defeat both the Rams and Minutemen in the 2006 Dad Vail finals.

"Last year we finished second here in very difficult conditions. This year, with the exception of San Diego, all of our races have been in terrible conditions. With the favorable weather forecast for the weekend, we're looking forward to the conditions not being a factor," said Hawk head coach Gerry Quinlan.

The Championship begins on the Cooper River at 8:00 a.m. with trials. Finals will begin at approximately 11:30 a.m.
