PENNSAUKEN, N.J. - The Saint Joseph's women's rowing team looks to be one of the top teams heading into this weekend's Atlantic 10 Championships at the Cooper River, on Saturday, April 18. Heats begin at 8 a.m. with the finals set for 11:40 a.m. and the awards ceremony slated for 2:40 p.m.

The Hawks are looking to finish even higher than last season, when they placed third. Rhode Island won the title in 2008, with UMass a close second.

Heading into the 2009 championship, SJU's Varsity 8 is seeded second, the Second Varsity 8 is seeded third, the Varsity 4 is seeded third and the Freshman 8 is seeded second.

"The seedings really have no bearing on our weekend. They are not predictions, but are merely based on results. We have not raced Rhode Island or UMass yet, and historically, they have been the teams to beat. We hope to change that this year. We have been working very hard and are really starting to move," said 10th-year head coach Gerry Quinlan.

In 2008, the Hawks' Freshman 8 earned a conference title, while the Varsity 8 placed second, earning the program's first-ever medal in that event.
