PHILADELPHIA - The Saint Joseph's women's rowing team will defend its conference titles in the Varsity 8 and the Quad at the 2010 Atlantic 10 Conference Championships on Saturday, April 17 at the Cooper River. The event begins at 8 a.m. The Hawks will also contend for conference championships in the Second Varsity 8, Freshman 8, Varsity 4 and Freshman 4. The Atlantic 10 has changed the point structure of the championship to determined the conference champion this year. The only events receiving points will be NCAA Championship events - Varsity 8, Second Varsity 8 and Varsity 4. "We have juggled the boats around to maximize our points in the NCAA events. If the automatic qualifiers ever do happen for women's rowing we need to be ready to put our best foot forward," said Hawks' coach Gerry Quinlan, who was the 2009 A-10 Coach of the Year. The Hawks return seven athletes from last year's A-10 Varsity 8 champs, and two from the Quad. SJU matched its best-ever team finish by placing third.
