PHILADELPHIA - The Saint Joseph's women's rowing started off 2010 with wins in the Varsity 8 and the Second Varsity 8 over Drexel, Delaware and La Salle the season opene on the Schuylkill River. It marked the sixth consecutive year that the Hawks have posted season-opening wins.

The teams faced miserable conditions, with a Nor'easter, battling rough water, a fast current and a swirling 25 mph wind.

"We had a great week of training and I thought we rowed and raced very well today," said Hawk coach Gerry Quinlan. "We will see these teams again and we know they will not go away -this is just the beginning."

Next up for Hawks is the Jesuit Invitational, Saturday, March 20 at Cooper River.
