Weather Causes Cancellation of Head of Schuylkill Regatta

Oct. 31, 2006

PHILADELPHIA - Due to a forecast of high winds and rain the Head of the Schuylkill Regatta was cancelled on Saturday, October 28. The race was also cancelled on Friday evening under a threat of soggy and windy conditions.

There was enough time, however, for the women to set up a scrimmage on Saturday morning with Jacksonville and West Virginia. The Hawk women boated five Eights against the Mountaneers and Dolphins and had good solid rows over the 2k course.

"The conditions were difficult -not because of wind or rain but because of debris (mainly wet leaves on the course) -but we gutted it out. It ended up being a very good race for us," said head coach Gerry Quinlan.

Keeping with the spirit of last weekend, the women have a change to the racing schedule and will race in Ventnor, NJ, on Saturday at 10:15 a.m. SJU will boat from the Viking Rowing Club on Surrey and Calvert Avenues and race from the Albany Blvd. Bridge (Atlantic City HS Boat House) and finish at the Old Viking Boat Club on Harvard Ave.
