Women's Rowing Kicks Off 2006-07 with Strong Effort at Navy Day

Oct. 18, 2006

PHILADELPHIA - The Saint Joseph's women's rowing team kicked off the 2006-07 campaign at the Navy Day Regatta on the Schuylkill River on October 14.

The Hawks turned in a solid performance in all events - the College 8 (7th place), Dad Vail 8 (4th), Freshman 8 (3rd & 11th), and Double (2nd).

"We were particularly pleased with our patience across the board in not getting ahead of ourselves in the race," said head coach Gerry Quinlan.

"We were very deliberate in our strokes and feeling our connection and not getting caught up in stroke rate."

The freshmen got their feet wet in their first collegiate race- which was truly exciting.

The Hawks' next competition is October 28 at the Head of the Schuylkill.
