WASHINGTON, D.C. - The Saint Joseph's women's rowing team opened up its Fall season at the 32nd Head of the Potomac Regatta, and all five Hawk boats recorded top eight finishes.

SJU started the day taking seventh out of 18 boats with a very strong row in the Club Eight event. In the Open Fours, Saint Joseph's boats earned second and third place, finishing just under 10 seconds apart, and only five seconds from the gold medal.

"These two boats have been battling in practice and it was great to see a competitive race," said head coach Gerry Quinlan.

In the Open Eight, the Hawks turned in another strong race with the two boats placing fourth and sixth, in just 18 seconds apart.

SJU showed a marked improvement from this race last season. "It was a great day all around. After a great couple weeks of practice, our team came in and performed. We showed great poise and strength," said Quinlan.

Next up for the Hawks is the Navy Day Regatta on October 13 on the Schuylkill River.
