Hawks Prep For Henley at Reading Regatta

June 12, 2006

READING, England - Saint Joseph's University's Dad Vail champion Varsity 8 crew prepared for the upcoming Henley Women's Regatta by racing at the historic Reading Regatta on the Thames River. The event offers crews an opportunity to race in a duel format and serves as the final tune-up before Henley.

SJU entered two crews in the event which raced an unusual, but the typical Reading Sunday distance of 1,100 meters. The Varsity 8, which includes Kate Parry, Brianna Kearns, Amanda Holland, Liz Sauter, Meg Henry, Jenn Linck, Lauren Sysol, Kaitie Reehill, and Debbie Bateman, was edged in its lone race by the host Reading.

The Hawks also boated a Varisty 4 which included alternates Maureen Owston and Alicia Easby-Smith, along with Brianna Kearns and Jenn Linck. The Varsity 4 won its opening race before falling in its second race of the day.
