PHILADELPHIA - The Saint Joseph's men's and women's rowing teams fared well in the first day of the 70th Dad Vail Regatta, winning most of their heats to advance to Saturday's semifinals.

Rowing thru a constant rain all day, the Hawks saw the men's and women's Varsity 8 boats each win their heats.

Other boats winning their heats were the Women's JV 8 and Freshman 8, the Men's Freshman 8 and Lightweight 4. The men's JV 8 finished second to advance.

Racing begins at 8 a.m. on Saturday on the Schuylkill River.
