SAN DIEGO, CALIF. - The Saint Joseph's Women's Varsity 8 traveled across the country for its annual trip to the San Diego Crew Classic. After advancing through the heats to the Grand Final, the Hawks managed a fifth-place finish in the highly-competitive field.

"The goal certainly was to defend our 2009 Cal Cup championship -but we fell short this year," said coach Gerry Quinlan. "There was a tremendous amount of speed this year and the Crew Classic is typically our fifth race of the year, but this year it was our third. We took a lot of great strokes and are still honing our race plan. We are confident we will be where we need to be competitive in the Atlantic 10 and Dad Vail meets."

SJU finished behind San Diego, Oklahoma, Sacramento State, and Stanford (LW) in the Grand Final.

The Hawks return to the Schuylkill River on Saturday, April 3 for the Murphy Cup.
