Frosh Women Pick Up Gold at Jesuit Invitational

CAMDEN, NJ - The Saint Joseph's women had a solid day at the Jesuit Invitational Regatta on the Cooper River. The day was highlighted by the Freshman 8's first place finish. The afternoon featured tough weather conditions, including choppy white caps and strong wind, along with a strong field highlighted by Georgetown, Boston College, Holy Cross and Loyola-MD. The Freshman 8 of cox Kristen Bonici, Kaitlin Reehill, Lauren Sysol, Alison Toner, Kate MacTurk, Liz Golden, Alison Gallagher, Kristen Bonaskiewich and Gina Barbone showed poise for the second week in a row, remaining undefeated in 2006. The Frosh won their event with a time of 7:20.9. The Women's Varsity 8 of cox Kate Parry, Brianna Kearns, Amanda Holland, Jenn Linck, Meg Henry, Liz Sauter, Alicia Easby-Smith, Maureen Owston, and Debbie Bateman displayed character in coming from behind in the last 300m to pass Holy Cross for a 3rd place finish. The crew got off to a slow start in the wind and chop but capped the day with a great final 30 meters to finish with a time of 7:09.6. SJU received a pair of second place finishes from the Freshman 4 and varsity Lightweight 8. The Frosh 4 of cox Kristen Bonici, Alison Toner, Alison Gallagher, Mary Seery and Stacy Lueng crossed the finish line with a time of 7:55.2 and the Lightweight 8 of cox Ashley Morrison, Liz Daly, Kathleen Radebaugh, Liz Golden, Steph Lang, Tina Sadowski, Kate Tarpey, Elise Tosatti and Kristen Lauber placed second 23 seconds behind
Georgetown.
The 2nd Varsity 8 of cox Jamie Speranzo, Jess Barsky, Caitlin Twaddell, Lindsay Thompson, Kelly McKinley, Meg Satnton, Marissa Mazza, Hilary Armstrong and Kaitlin Weston finished third with a time of 7:32.42. The Varsity 4 of cox Kate Parry, Catherine Best, Jeanne Wells, Christiana Scollin and Marissa Mazza finished 6th in 7:54.25. Next up for the Hawks is the Murphy Cup on March 25 and a dual with Connecticut on March 26, both on the Schuylkill River. |
