Women's Rowing Opens 2009 in Winning Fashion
March 14, 2009
PHILADELPHIA - The Saint Joseph's women's rowing team opened its 2009 season by winning all four events against Drexel, Delaware, Lehigh, and La Salle on the Schuylkill River. The Hawks won the Varsity 4, Freshman 8, Second Varsity 8 and Varsity 8 all by open water in the season opener. "Today was a great day which capped a great week. We overstroked our competition a bit, but this early in the season we keep the race plan simple - and that's to win. The plan is to do whatever it takes, feel and react to boat speed, breathe, and win the race. We have a lot of work to do but we won the races," said Hawk coach Gerry Quinlan. SJU is back in action next Saturday, March 21, at the Jesuit Invitational in Pennsauken, N.J., where the Hawks will face Georgetown, Boston College, Fordham, Fairfield and Loyola.
