RUTGERS TOPS SJU, 13-8

NEW BRUNSWICK, NJ (3/26/02) - Sophomore Kristin Teklinsky tallied four goals and junior Brett Dymarczyk added three scores, but it was not enough as Rutgers held off Saint Joseph's, 13-8, in women's lacrosse on Tuesday evening. Rutgers jumped out early on the Hawks, scoring three goals in the first two and a half minutes to take a 3-0 lead. Teklinsky and Dymarczyk tallied twice in just over a minute to cut the margin to one with 24:20 remaining in the half.The Scarlet Knights answered by scoring five of the next six goals to open up a 8-3 lead. To their credit, the Hawks did not back down. Dymarczyk tallied on a free position at 7:13 to make it 8-4, and junior Kelly Butler closed the gap to three, with a goal at the 1:12 mark. The half ended with Rutgers holding an 8-5 lead. Teklinsky, who tallied nine goals last week to earn The Hawk Athlete of the Week honors, scored the first goal of the second half, to bring SJU to within two goals, 8-6, with 25:54 to play. Senior Maura McNamara assisted on the play, her second dish of the game. Kate Solomon answered back for Rutgers, to make it 9-6. Teklinsky was up to the challenge, scoring again at the 19-minute mark to make it 9-7. The Scarlet Knights then tallied four unanswered goals to seal the win for the home team. Teklinsky scored the game's final goal, at the 1:47 mark, but it was not enough as SJU fell to 1-3 on the season. Senior goalie Lauren Bradley recorded nine saves for the SJU. Sophomore Maggie Bopp tallied three goals to lead Rutgers (3-5). The Hawks next play at Drexel on Thursday at 4:00 p.m.
