SJU FALLS AT TEMPLE, 18-3

PHILADELPHIA (4/29/01) - The St. Joseph's women's lacrosse team \held its own with Atlantic 10 power Temple on the Owls' Geasey Field during the first half, trailing just 7-3 at intermission. The Owls (10-5, 5-0) broke the game open, however, in the second half, tallying 11 unanswered goals in the period to win the contest, 18-3. Liz Frengs and Deanna Radcliffe led the Temple assault with five goals each. Jen Jefferson (2 goals), Patience Synnestvedt (2 goals) Noelle Cebron (1 goal, 1 assist), Robin Keevan (1 goal), Alli Demas (1 goal) and Nicole Battaglia (1 goal) rounded out the scoring for the Owls. Goalie Sheena Oommen had 10 saves for Temple. Bernadette Smith led the Hawks in scoring with two goals. Kris Teklinsky (1 goal) and Shannon Hungate (1 assist) also scored points for St. Joseph's. Goalie Lauren Bradley had 19 saves for the Hawks. SJU (5-9, 2-3), which hosts the Verizon Atlantic 10 Women's Lacrosse Championships this coming Friday and Saturday, May 5-6, will meet the three-time regular season champion Owls in the first round on Friday at noon.. Temple plays at Delaware on May 2 prior to that rematch.
