HAWKS COME FROM BEHIND TO DEFEAT ST. BONNIES, 11-8

ST. BONAVENTURE, NY (4/21/01) - The St. Joseph's women's lacrosse team overcame a 5-3 halftime deficit to post an 11-8 win in an Atlantic 10 Conference game at St. Bonaventure on Saturday afternoon. St. Joe's scored the first four goals of the second half. The Bonnies cut the lead to 9-8 with two minutes to play, but St. Joe's midfielder Kristin Tekinski scored for the Hawks with just under five minutes left. Attack Lauren Foley scored with 1:07 left to seal the victory. Hawks senior attack Bernadette Smith, the fourth-leading scorer in the A-10, scored four goals and had a fifth called back for use of an illegal stick. She now has 42 goals and seven assists for 49 points on the season. Senior attack Shannon Hungate scored a goal and notched three assists for a four-point game. SBU midfielder Laura Spaulding, who earlier in the week was named Atlantic 10 Rookie of the Week for the second time, scored three goals to bring her team-leading total to 31. Sophomore midfielder Emily Lilyea scored two goals to give her 29 on the season. The Hawks improved to 4-7 and 1-1 in the conference. The loss dropped St. Bonaventure to 5-8 on the season and 0-4 in the A-10. SJU will play next at Duquesne on Sunday, April 22.
