Hawks Fall to Rutgers, 16-6
Rutgers got five goals from Claire Grooms as
the Scarlet Knights downed St. Joseph's, 16-6,
in women's lacrosse action on Tuesday evening.
Rutgers (3-4) scored two goals in less that two
minutes taking an early 2-0 lead. The Hawks
responded with two quick goals to tie the game
at the 26:31 mark. The two teams traded goals,
knotting the game at three with 22 minutes
remaining but Rutgers scored seven
unanswered goals to take a 10-3 lead at the
half.
The Hawks (3-2) never found their offense as Rutgers outscored SJU 6-3
in the second half. Anne Blank scored two of SJU's three goals in the
second half. Rutgers goalkeeper Lauren Gulotta turned back 13 of SJU's
shots, keeping SJU out of the game.
Blank and freshman Amie Schmoltze each scored two goals for SJU.
Lauren Bradley had 11 saves for the Hawks.
