California Hands Hawks First Loss
After starting out the season with three straight
wins, the Hawks suffered their first loss of the
year in a 14-10 decision to visiting California.
Shannon Hungate tallied three times for SJU
while Carley Preble netted four goals for the
Bears.
California took an early 2-0 lead but the Hawks
responded with two goals by freshman Amie

first half. California would then score five of the
next six goals to take a 7-3 advantage at the
half.
The Hawks found their offense in the second half, scoring twice in the
first six minutes to cut the Bears lead to three at 8-5. California (6-3)
responded scoring the next two goals to extend their lead to 10-5 with
18 minutes left in regulation. SJU once again tried to make a comeback,
scoring twice in a three-minute span to cut the lead to 10-7 at the 11:00
mark. The Bears proved to be too strong as they scored four goals in
the last 10 minutes to seal the victory.
