Jenna Martino Reaches Final Stage of 2009 U.S. Women's Lacrosse Developmental Team Tryouts

June 11, 2009

BALTIMORE - U.S. Lacrosse announced last week that Saint Joseph's attacker Jenna Martino is one of the 64 top women's lacrosse players in the United States chosen to participate in the final round of U.S. Developmental Team Tryouts. Martino is the first Saint Joseph's player to try out for the national team, and will take part in the second round of tryouts later this summer.

Martino set new career highs and school records in 2009, scoring 57 goals and adding 19 assists for 76 points. She led the team in all three categories and broke SJU records in goals and points. For her efforts she was named to the Atlantic 10 All-Conference First Team and garnered All-Championship Team accolades as she led the Hawks to the conference championship game for the first time in program history.

For her career, Martino has scored 133 goals (third in SJU history), doled out 33 assists (fourth all-time) and tallied 166 points (third all-time). Both the all-time goals and points records will be well within her reach in 2010.

The first round of tryouts was held over Memorial Day weekend at Cedar Lane Sports Park in Bel Air, Md. Over 150 athletes competed for one of the 64 spots in the final tryouts.

The final round will be held August 1-2 at the University of Maryland-Baltimore County.

The U.S. Developmental Team will train with an eye toward the 2013 FIL Women's Lacrosse World Cup. The 2009 World Cup will be contested from June 18-27 in Prague, Czech Republic.
