Women's Lacrosse Falls 17-9 At St. Bonaventure In Season Finale

OLEAN, NY - The Saint Joseph's women's lacrosse team completed its 2005 season with a 17-9 loss at St. Bonaventure Sunday afternoon. The Bonnies' offense helped St. Bonaventure to a 6-1 lead midway through the first half as it scored the opening five goals of the game. The Hawks outscored the Bonnies 4-2 over the final 12 minutes as Saint Joseph's found itself down only 8-5 at the half. Despite scoring the opening goal of the second half, the Bonnies would outscore the Hawks 5-2 from 27:22 to 13:31 to take a 13-8 advantage. Saint Joseph's would tally one goal over the final 13 minutes as St. Bonaventure scored the final four goals to prevail. For the game, the Bonnies outshot the Hawks 36-29 as SJU's senior goalkeeper Courtney Huff made eight saves in the loss. Individually, junior Kerry O'Connell led the Hawks in scoring with four goals, while five other SJU players registered a goal. St. Bonaventure was led by senior Kelly Chevez' six goals and two assists. With the loss, the Hawks finish the 2005 campaign 5-10 and 1-6 in Atlantic 10 play. St. Bonaventure improved to 10-6 overall and 2-5 in conference play.
