Last Second Goal Helps Hawks Past Villanova, 10-9
April 23, 2005 VILLANOVA, PA - Saint Joseph's freshman Christina Colangelo scored with 13.9 seconds remaining in the game to cap a five-consecutive-goal streak that helped the Hawks' women's lacrosse team past Villanova, 10-9. The Hawks trailed 9-5 just five minutes into the second stanza as the Wildcats' Amy Rocap beat Saint Joseph's senior goalkeeper Courtney Huff. From there, the Hawks offense came alive, scoring five straight goals over the final 25 minutes. Junior Lindsay Brown opened the scoring for Saint Joseph's at 20:19. Classmate Kerry O'Connell tallied the next three goals as Colangelo netted the game winner in the waning moments. In the first half, the score was tied at 2-2 with 23 minutes, but Villanova would go on to score six of the final nine goals of the stanza. For the game, the Hawks out shot the wildcats 25-22 as Huff made 10 saves in the victory. Individually, O'Connell paced SJU with five goals, while Colangelo, Brown, sophomore Jen Egan, sophomore Suzanne Finley and sophomore Kristina Jaggers added a goal apiece. Becky Gardner led Villanova's offensive attack, posting four goals in the loss. With the victory, the Hawks improve to 5-7, while the Wildcats fall to 2-12. Saint Joseph's returns to action Tuesday when it hosts Rutgers at 7 p.m.
