Women's Lacrosse Falls At La Salle, 15-6

PHILADELPHIA, PA - The Saint Joseph's women's lacrosse team fell at city-rival La Salle Thursday afternoon as the Explorers downed the Hawks 15-6. La Salle jumped out to an early 3-0 in the first half as Kate Henwood tallied two of her game-high five goals in the opening six minutes of play. Saint Joseph's junior Kerry O'Connell got the Hawks on the board in the seventh minute scoring off a pass by freshman Christina Colangelo. Both teams would exchange goals before La Salle opened an 8-2 advantage as it scored four straight goals from 16:36 to 23:39. The Hawks would add a late goal, but the Explorers would add the final two goals of the stanza to take a 10-3 lead into the half. La Salle extended its lead to 15-4 in the second half, before Saint Joseph's added the final two goals in the waning minutes. For the game, the Explorers out shot the Hawks 25-17 as Saint Joseph's senior goalkeeper Courtney Huff made eight saves in the loss. Individually, O'Connell and sophomore Jen Egan led the Hawks in scoring, adding two goals apiece. Freshmen Lindsey-Kate McCool and Ashley Brennan both added a goal each. Henwood paced La Salle with five goals as four other Explorers tallied at least two goals. With the loss, the Hawks fall to 4-7 overall and 1-4 in Atlantic 10 play. La Salle improves to 9-6 overall and 2-3 in A-10 play. Saint Joseph's returns to action Saturday at Villanova at 1 p.m.
