Box Score

PHILADELPHIA, PA - The Hawks lost to the Minutewomen 10-7 in their third conference game of the season Thursday night at Finnesey Field. Captain Jenny Egan led the scoring with three goals for the Hawks.

UMass came out strong opening the game with two goals in the first five minutes of play. Saint Joseph's began to fight their way back with an unassisted goal by Kristina Jaggers at 24:55. The Minutewomen soon netted another goal making the score 3-1 but the Hawks quickly answered back with two goals of their own, the first by Lindsey-Kate McCool and the second by Egan. UMass was able to add one more goal before time ran out, making it 4-3 at the half.

The Hawks opened up the scoring early in the second half tying things up with a free position goal by McCool. SJU went on to take the lead a couple minutes later with a goal by Egan off a pass from McCool. UMass tied it up 5-5 and substituted Goalie Lauren McCarthy in for starter Krissy Anderson. Saint Joseph's reclaimed the lead minutes later with a free position goal from Karen Wiley.

The Minutewomens' spreading of the field and long passes proved to be too much for the Hawks as UMass tied the game and then took the lead. The Hawks were unable to comeback as four goals went unanswered, ending in a 10-7 loss.

The loss brings the Hawks' record to 4-6 overall and 1-2 in the Atlantic 10. Saint Joseph's picked up 26 groundballs compared to UMass' 17. Goalkeeper Sarah Magan had seven saves for the game.

The Hawks return to action Saturday, April 15th at 1:00 pm as they take on cross-city rival Temple in the first of three road games.
