Box Score

PHILADELPHIA, PA - Saint Joseph's women's lacrosse was able to hold onto their lead, squashing a LIU comeback attempt to win 15-8 Tuesday afternoon at Finnesey Field.

The Hawks opened up the scoring with a goal by junior Jen Fletcher at 28:55, quickly followed by a second goal netted by senior captain Kerry O'Connell assisted by freshman Jessica Westlake. From then on it was a back and forth battle of goals and ball control. The first half ended with Saint Joseph's up 7-3 with Jenny Egan, Kristina Jaggers, Lindsey-Kate McCool (2), and Karen Wiley all contributing goals.

St. Joe's continued their scoring frenzy opening up the second half with three more goals. The first came from freshman Helene Tursi off a quick pass from Becca Collins. Soon Wiley and Jaggers each added unassisted goals bringing the score to 10-3 after which Long Island substituted Amanda Childress in for goal keeper Kim Campbell. The Blackbirds quickly answered back with a goal off a free position, kicking off their come back attempt. Their additional four goals proved not to be enough as the Hawks held onto the lead and extended it with three goals by O'Connell and two from Jaggers.

The Hawks outshot the Blackbirds 37-19 and picked up 35 groundballs compared to LIU's 24.

Saint Joseph's returns to action Friday April 7th at 4:00pm against George Washington in their second conference match up.
