Hawks Fall at Rutgers, 11-8

PISCATAWAY, NJ - The Saint Joseph's women's lacrosse team fell at Rutgers 11-8 Sunday afternoon. The Hawks jumped out to a 4-3 edge in the first half as freshman Jessica Westlake and sophomore Lindsey Kate McCool scored once and senior Kerry O'Connell tallied twice, putting SJU up one at the 20:11 mark. From there Rutgers outscored the Hawks 5-2 over the final 20 minutes to take an 8-6 edge into the half. In the second half, defense ruled as only five goals were tallied. Unfortunately for Saint Joseph's, the Scarlet Knights tallied the first two goals of the second stanza and added a third as the Hawks managed only two goals in the second half. Individually, O'Connell, McCool and Westlaked each tallied two goals apiece, while sophomore Christina Colangelo and freshman Helene Tursi added one goal each. In net, Sarah Magan made 14 saves. For Rutgers, Kate Shomoe scored four times for four points. With the loss, the Hawks fall to 1-3 on the season, while Rutgers improves to 4-2. Saint Joseph's returns to action Thursday, March 22 at Lafayette.
