SJU Field Hockey Players Earn A-10 Postseason Honors

Nov. 6, 2008

PHILADELPHIA - Saint Joseph's was well represented on Thursday afternoon as eight Saint Joseph's field hockey players were tabbed for the Atlantic 10 All-Conference, All-Rookie, and All-Academic teams. Junior Kellie Walter received a pair of honors, garnering both First Team All-Conference and All-Academic accolades.

Walter leads the Hawks in all three major offensive categories, piling up 10 goals and seven assists for 27 points, all career highs. She currently ranks in a tie for third in the conference in points.

Tabbed for the All-Conference Second Team were senior Marisa Pizzi and sophomore Casey Fry. Pizzi ranks second on the team in goals and points with eight and 19, respectively. Fry played all but seven minutes this season, anchoring the SJU backline.

Three Hawks were named to the All-Rookie team: redshirt-freshman Kelly Swanick was one of two goalkeepers to get the nod, while true freshmen Ellen Rowe and Theresa Testa joined her on the 12-member squad. SJU players took three places on the All-Rookie team, more than any other school in the conference.

Saint Joseph's also had a presence on the All-Academic team as Walter, senior Krista Bordogna and junior Anne Schreuders were honored in a vote conducted by the conference sports information directors. Bordogna smashed her career highs this season with seven goals, two assists, and 16 points, good for third on the team. Schreuders played in just eight games this season due to injury, but still managed to place fourth on the squad in goals (five) and points (14). Her four assists also tied her for second.

The Hawks will take the field tomorrow at 2:30 p.m. for their Atlantic 10 semifinal matchup with the top-seeded Massachusetts Minutewomen. This year's championship is being held at Temple's Geasey Field. The second-seeded Richmond Spiders will play the host and third-seeded Owls at 11:00 a.m. in the first semifinal. The winners will face off Saturday afternoon at 2:00 p.m. for the conference championship.
