Hawk Field Hockey Players Honored by Atlantic 10

Nov. 1, 2007

PHILADELPHIA - Seven Saint Joseph's field hockey players were honored by the Atlantic 10 Thursday as the conference released its postseason awards list. Rebecca Cunfer was named the conference's Student-Athlete of the Year for the second straight season, while Jen Wrublesky was named the Atlantic 10 Rookie of the Year.

In addition to the Rookie of the Year honors, the first for SJU since Cunfer won the award in 2004, Wrublesky was the only freshman named to the All-Conference First Team.

Joining Cunfer on the Second Team were senior Katie Young, junior Marisa Pizzi, and sophomore Anne Schreuders. It is the first All-Conference honor for Pizzi and Schreuders, while Young makes her second consecutive appearance on the Second Team.

Atlantic 10 All-Rookie honors were bestowed on both Wrublesky and classmate Casey Fry. Wrublesky led all conference rookies in scoring (22 points) while Fry added a goal in the win over West Chester.

Cunfer and junior forward Krista Bordogna were rewarded with slots on the A-10 Academic All-Conference Team. It is Bordogna's first conference honor, while Cunfer appears on the squad for the third time in as many seasons.

The All-Conference and All-Rookie Teams were selected by the league's head coaches, while the Student-Athlete of the Year and the Academic All-Conference Team were voted on by the conference's sports information directors.

The Hawks will participate in the Atlantic 10 Championship semifinals Friday morning. Saint Joseph's takes on Temple at 11:00 a.m. on Finnesey Field.
