Oct. 12, 2009
PHILADELPHIA - Saint Joseph's junior goalkeeper Kelly Swanick was named Atlantic 10 field hockey Co-Player of the Week, the conference office announced on Monday afternoon. Swanick posted a pair of shutouts on Friday and Sunday, notching eight saves for the weekend. On Friday, Swanick made four saves, all in the second half, as Saint Joseph's blanked Temple, 4-0, in the Atlantic 10 opener for both teams. Swanick then made four more saves in another 4-0 win, this time at Rutgers, on Sunday afternoon. She has lowered her goals against average to 3.29 for the season. The back-to-back shutouts increased her season total to three and her career total to seven, placing her seventh all-time in SJU history. Swanick shared the conference honor with Sarah Blythe-Wood of Richmond. The Hawks return to conference action this Friday with a crucial 1:00 p.m. home tilt with two-time defending A-10 champion Massachusetts. The Minutewomen were ranked 10th in last week's National Field Hockey Coaches Association poll.
