OWLS GET REVENGE, OUST HAWKS IN A-10 SEMIFINALS, 3-1

PHILADELPHIA (11/07/03) - Second-seeded Temple (11-10) scored late in the first half and added an insurance tally early in the second stanza to defeat third-seeded Saint Joseph's (7-11) in an Atlantic 10 Conference semifinal on Finnesey Field. With the victory the Owls advance to Saturday's championship game to face Richmond at 1:00 PM. The win allowed TU to exact revenge on the Hawks who deteated the Owls on Broad Street one week earlier. Temple opened the scoring early in the first half, as freshman Lindsey Holman slammed home a cross from sophomore Andrea Duva in the third minute of play. Saint Joseph's answered the goal and evened the score at 1-1 on a goal by sophomore Katelyn O'Brien. Senior Amie Schmoltze added the assist. TU took the lead for good when Temple senior Melissa DeCesaris knocked home a pass from classmate Haley Dervinis for her first goal of the game with just under 6:00 minutes to play in the opening frame. DeCesaris added an unassisted tally 5:00 minutes into the second half to close out the scoring. SJU junior goalkeeper Courtney Huff registered eight saves, Temples Erin Conroy had two stops. TU outshot St. Joe's 18-6 and held a 9-7 edge in penalty corners.
