SJU TO HOST A-10 FIELD HOCKEY CHAMPIONSHIPS

PHILADELPHIA (11/03/03) - The 2003 Atlantic 10 Field Hockey Tournament, scheduled for Friday and Saturday, November 7-8, at Saint Joseph's University's Finnesey Field in Philadelphia, PA, will feature top four seeds Richmond, Temple, Saint Joseph's and West Chester battling for the Atlantic 10 crown. Defending Atlantic 10 Champion Richmond earned the No. 1 seed in the tournament after capturing the league's regular season title with a perfect 6-0 record. The Spiders finished the season at 16-3, their best record in program history, and earned back-to-back regular season titles. Temple earned the No. 2 seed after finishing league play at 4-2 and posting a 10-10 record overall. The Owls are making their first Atlantic 10 Tournament appearance since 2000, when they lost in the championship game to Massachusetts. Saint Joseph's defeated Temple, 2-1, in its final regular season game on Saturday to take the No. 3 seed with a 3-3 conference record and a 7-10 overall mark. The Hawks are making their third straight tournament appearance and have not won the A-10 title since 1995. West Chester defeated La Salle, 3-1, on Saturday to grab the No. 4 seed after posting a 3-3 mark in league play and a 6-11 record overall. The Golden Rams will join Atlantic 10 postseason play for the fourth straight season. Saint Joseph's and West Chester tied at 3-3 in league play, however, the Hawks defeated the Golden Rams 2-1 in overtime during the regular season to take the higher seed. The Atlantic 10 Conference Championship will feature No. 1 Richmond versus No. 4 West Chester on Friday, Nov. 7, at 12:00 p.m., followed by No. 2 Temple versus No. 3 Saint Joseph's at 2:00 p.m. The Atlantic 10 Champion will be crowned at Saint Joseph's on Saturday, Nov. 8, at 1:00 p.m. 2003 Atlantic 10 Field Hockey Championship
