FIELD HOCKEY FALLS AT RHODE ISLAND IN OT, 2-1

KINGSTON, RI (10/11/03) - A late goal in regulation and then an early tally in overtime helped the Rhode Island field hockey team (6-7, 1-0 A-10) defeat Saint Joseph's (4-8, 0-1 A-10) in the Atlantic 10 opener for both teams, 2-1. Freshman Nicole Antonini had the lone goal for the Hawks. Antonini gave SJU first half lead with her team-leading seventh goal of the season. The Crimson and Gray then played URI even-up through much of the remainder of regulation, until the Rams evened the score with just minutes left in regulation. In the extra session both teams had opportunities, but the Rams were able to knock home the game-winner less than five minutes into overtime. SJU will look to even its league slate on Sunday when the team travels to Massachusetts for a noon-time tilt.
