WEST CHESTER RALLIES PAST SJU IN A-10 OPENER, 3-2

WEST CHESTER, Pa. (10/13/02) - The West Chester field hockey team (5-7, 1-0 A-10) tallied a pair of second half goals to overcome a 2-1 halftime deficit and defeat Saint Joseph's (5-5, 0-1 A-10) 3-2 in the Atlantic 10 Conference opener for both schools. Senior Brett Dymarczyk and junior Amie Schmoltze netted the goals for the Crimson and Gray. Dymarczyk opened the scoring with an unassisted goal less than eight minutes into the contest, but WCU responded just over a minute later with a goal to knot the contest at one apiece. SJU regained the lead with just 6:51 to play before intermission, when Schmoltze drilled home a pass from senior Aly Dankovitch to make it 2-1 at the break. The Rams retied the game at 2-2 at the 12:31 mark of the second half and then knocked home the game-winner just 1:16 later to seize the 3-2 win. The Hawks travel to Rutgers on Wednesday, before opening a four game homestand this weekend against Richmond.
