FIELD HOCKEY TEAM BLANKED BY LAFAYETTE, 3-0
PHILADELPHIA, Pa. (09/25/02) - Unable to muster a consistent offensive threat, the Saint Joseph's University field hockey team (3-3) lost a 3-0 decision to Lafayette (7-2) on Finnesey Field. The victory was the seventh straight for LC, while SJU dropped its second consecutive outing. Tested often, hawk netminder Courtney Huff made 14 saves.
Neither team seized control during the first half of play, although the Leopards outshot SJU in the opening period, 11-2. LC's Jen Stone converted the lone first half goal on a penalty stroke at the 19:50 mark.
Lafayette opened up the attack in period two, netting a pair of goals. Both coming in the later stages of the half, Kathleen Gallagher lifted in a rebound with just under 15 minutes to play and Meredith Hahn knocked in the contest's final tally with 6:34 left.
The Hawks made a late push, winning a handful of late penalty corner opportunities, but were unable to convert.
LC out shot the Hawks 23-8 for the game and held the edge in corners 8-5.
The Hawks have a pair of games this weekend, traveling to Penn on Friday (7:00 PM) and hosting Fairfield on Sunday (noon).
