FIVE HAWKS HIGHLIGHT 2001 ATLANTIC 10 FIELD HOCKEY ALL-CONFERENCE TEAM

PHILADELPHIA, PA (11/02/01) - Five Saint Joseph's University field hockey standouts, a record number for SJU, highlighted the Atlantic 10 Conference's 2001 field hockey all-conference team. Selected from the Hawks were senior goalkeeper Lauren Bradley, junior midfielder Kelly Butler, junior back Natasha Pronga, and junior forwards Brett Dymarczyk and Kathy Sokalski.

Bradley leads the nation with a .869 save percentage, while posting a stingy 1.44 goals against average. Earlier this season, she tied a Hawk single game record with 22 saves against Villanova and later broke the Hawk career mark of 450.

Pronga, meanwhile earned all-conference honors for the second straight year. She has started all 56 games of her SJU career.

Butler (7 goals, 5 assists, 19 points), Sokalski (7 goals, 3 assists, 17 points)and Dymarczyk (7 goals, 1 assists, 15 points) were the Hawks top three scorers and also finished numbers two, three and five in the Conference scoring race.

Joining the five Saint Joseph's players on the All-Conference team were Marcie Bourski and Crystal Mohr of Rhode Island; Temple's JoAnn Engestrom, Virginia Gonzalez, and Kacy Ziomek; Anke Bruemmer and Jill Fantasia of Massachusetts; West Chester's Lindsay Gordon and Jill Posen; Richmond's Heather Rice; and Jami Wilus of La Salle.

In addition to the all-conference team the Atlantic10 also handed out its individual awards. Rice and Bruemmer were named the 2001 Atlantic 10 field hockey Offensive and Defensive Players of the Year, respectively, in voting conducting among the Conference's head coaches. In that same vote, Colleen Bolger of La Salle was tabbed Rookie of the Year and West Chester's Kathy Krannebitter was selected as Coach of the Year.
