DREXEL DOWNS SAINT JOSEPH’S IN FIELD HOCKEY, 2-1
PHILADELPHIA, PA (10/17/01) A late goal by junior Brett Dymarczyk was not enough to extend the Saint Joseph's University field hockey team's winning streak to five games, as the Hawks fell to Drexel on the Finnesey Field turf, 2-1. With the loss SJU slipped to 8-5 on the year, while the Dragons improved to 7-8 overall.
On a frigid Wednesday evening, Drexel was able to score late in each half to come away with the victory. Senior Pamie Zukowski blasted home the first goal for DU at the 11:32 mark of the first half. Miranda Benicki then made it a 2-0 game with only 9:27 remaining in regulation.
Dymarczyk made it interesting for SJU late, poking home a loose ball in front of the Drexel cage. Her marker sliced the lead to 2-1 with only 7:22 to play.
Lauren Bradley finished with five saves in goal. She was matched by her counterpart for the Dragons, Katie Dougherty.
The Hawks take to the road this weekend for a critical Atlantic 10 weekend in New England. On Saturday, SJU will square off with Massachusetts, while on Sunday the Hawks visit Rhode Island. Action both days kicks off at noon.
