HAWKS NIP FAIRFIELD, 2-1, FOR THIRD STRAIGHT WIN

FAIRFIELD, CT (10/07/01) - The Saint Joseph's University field hockey team (7-4) scored a pair of first-half goals over a 10-minute span, which enabled the Hawks to defeat Fairfield University (5-7 overall), 2-1. Junior Brett Dymarczyk scored the game's first goal, when she controlled a crossing pass from sophomore Kristen Teklinsky with 25:53 remaining in the first half. Later, junior Kelly Butler gave the Hawks a 2-0 lead when she converted a pass from Amie Schmoltze with 15:45 remaining in the period. The goal was the third in two days for Butler. The Stags cut into the lead when Stephanie Holland scored nine minutes into the second half, stroking a loose ball past goaltender Lauren Bradley following a penalty corner. Fairfield had several chances to tie the score, including Dani Brown's shot which hit the goalpost in the final 30 seconds of the game. Fairfield goaltender Lauren Thomas made four saves, while Bradley finished with five saves. Coming off back-to-back games, SJU will now have a long layoff. The Hawks will return to action on Sunday, October 14, when the team visits new Atlantic 10 foe Richmond.
