SJU OPENS A-10 PLAY WITH 3-2 WIN OVER TEMPLE
PHILADELPHIA, PA (10/06/01) - The Saint Joseph's field hockey team opened Atlantic 10 Conference play with a 3-2 victory over Temple on Geasey Field in North Philadelphia. Junior Brett Dymarczyk tallied two goals for SJU which improved to 6-4, 1-0 A-10 on the year. The Owls slipped to 5-7, 0-1 A-10. The victory snapped an eight-game regular season losing streak to A-10 foes, dating back to 1999.
The Hawks were led by Dymarczyk's two goals and junior Kelly Butler added a goal as well. Susan Nase and Kacy Ziomek scored for Temple.
SJU led in the game 1-0 and 2-1, but Temple was able to equalize on both occasions. Dymarczyk then slotted home the game-winner with just 4:21 to play in regulation to lift the Crimson and Gray to victory.
The Hawks return to the field tomorrow, when the team travels to Fairfield, Conn. for a matchup with the Stags. The contest was originally scheduled for September 16, but was rescheduled do to the events of September 11.
