HAWKS SNAP SEVEN-GAME SKID, DOWN URSINUS, 1-0, ON SENIOR DAY

Philadelphia, PA (10/22/00) - Sophomore forward Kathy Sokalski scored early in the first half to lead St. Joseph's to a 1-0 victory over Ursinus in field hockey action on Hawk Hill. The goal was the fifth of the season for Sokalski, tying her for the team lead. The victory snapped a seven-game losing streak for SJU and gave the Hawks a win on Senior Day. Sokalski found herself with the ball near the top of the circle. She made a quick move to slide past a defender and then swatted the ball into the back of the cage. She leads the team with 5 goals and 7 assists for 17 points on the year. Although it was Sokalski's goal that was the difference in the game, the Hawk defense was critical in holding down Ursinus. The quartet of Mary Kate Brislin, Katie Helder, Natasha Pronga and Carly Pasceri, along with goalkeeper Lauren Bradley managed to fend off 16 Bear shots and 9 defensive corners. Bradey finished the match with 9 saves. SJU, meanwhile, mustered just 4 shots and 8 corners for the game. The victory was a fitting way for SJU to celebrate Senior Day. The Hawks honored seniors Brislin, Pasceri and Amy Scheuren in pregame ceremonies. The Crimson and Gray will close out the regular season on Wednesday, when the Hawks host Atlantic 10 Conference rival Temple at 4:00 PM.
